How is your experience with your kids at church?
fun right?
By the end of the first hour I usually feel like I've lived in the foyer longer than I've visited the chapel and that I have shushed my kids so much that I've not heard two sentences in a row from any of the speakers. I don't remember the last time I've attended Sunday School all the way through a lesson.
My girls have this random tendency to rub their just-done hair on the bench to make it tangle into a nest and love to sit in such a way that not only can the kids in the bench in front of us see their underwear but so can the bishopric, the boys passing the sacrament, and the kid sitting in the back row.
I have been complimented (astonishingly enough) that my kids are fairly well behaved at church.
I have to laugh--cause that's definitely not how it feels to me.
My #4 is just a baby whose nap time is a half hour before church starts (meaning he doesn't get one) and who knows how to walk (AKA doesn't sit still for any amount of time now).
It's never a dull moment with that one.
My #3 loves to sing loudly during sacrament meeting when the rest of the congregation is quiet. Sometimes it's something cute like I Am a Child of God (and I feel like a good mom who obviously sings hymns with her children), but more likely than not it's Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer or the Strawberry Shortcake theme song.
My #2 is constantly asking to sit with other families or argues with me that "books are not toys" so she can play with something before our agreed "after the sacrament" rule.
My #1 is quite reverent usually... until... she is sitting near any of her siblings. Then (quietly of course) she pokes and prods until the child next to her resorts to hitting/giggling/squealing. Inevitably.
One time I had a lady in the ward come up to me between classes and just looked at me and gave me a hug and said, "it looks like you've got your hands full today!"
("Great--you noticed that!)
THAT's how I feel more often than not.
I'm pretty sure 75% of our Family Home Evening lessons have been on being reverent in Sacrament meeting.
I'm waiting for that 'clicking in' moment to arrive for my kids though.
(It's going to be soon, I think.)
Ha Ha!
Anyhoo--
I'm counting my blessings because Cale (who still has 3 months before nursery) was allowed to go to play and snack time today and didn't even notice me slipping out of the door.
Brynn gave her first scripture/prayer in primary last week and ROCKED it!
Every week during dinner Carina LOVES to give us a rundown of the stories she hears in her primary class!
And Danna is really enjoying finding our hymn numbers in sacrament meeting and can now read well enough that she sings along with us! The cutie!
And here they are for a quick photoshoot before church!
goofs!
