Last Tuesday I'd accumulated enough random items on my errand list to get myself and the girls ready for a day of duty. I packed the diaper bag, buckled up the girls and set out. I'll give you a basic rundown of places I had on my list to go: KMart, WalMart, JCPenny, D.I., the bank, Mike (at work),Town and Country, Wendy's (for lunch), Cal-Ranch, Fred Meyer, Alpine Cycle/Fitness, and two friends houses to drop off/pick things up.
No big deal right?

Just a little story for you though to help you understand the intensity of my shopping trip with the girls. We ran to Cal-Ranch to pick up something for my sister and then to look around for something I could use in my garden for my peas to climb up on. Keep in mind that both my girls were about screaming when we finally got there. After making a bit of a fool of myself trying to get my girls (in a shopping cart) through the non-automatic front doors we headed in search of our items.
My first mistake was to stop and check out the camping equipment aisle (I was looking for random cheap stuff to put in our 72 hour kits) Danna wanted to touch everything in sight so after grabbing things out of her hands multiple times to put them back I finally found some bells (used for scaring off bears while hiking) and let the girls jingle them so we could move on from the aisle.
Here's where I found some chicken wire fencing I thought could be used for my peas. Not super expensive but I thought I'd keep looking. That was mistake #2. We went off in search of Amber's item, then looked at some seeds for the garden all the while picking up those stinking bear bells when both of the girls dropped them over and over again. Eventually I just stuffed them in some unrelated corner shelf (don't tell). In the meantime I realized Danna had peed her pants and was trying to take them off cause they were wet. Not great timing since her clean pair of panties had been left in the car.
By this time I decided chicken fencing would work just fine regardless of the cost so we went back for it. Carina apparently didn't like going back to that corner of the store and started wailing. Scrambling in the diaper bag for her soother (pacifier) I realized we must have dropped it somewhere. So we backtracked our entire route through the store (even back to the camping section) where I realized it was in my pocket.
THEN I realized I still needed poles to hold up my chicken wire. So we found some (about 4 ft tall), I grabbed a handful and laid them in the cart. Danna just LOVED these. On our way to the check-out counter Danna had grabbed a pole holding it horizontally and laughed as things started falling off the shelves around me. AHHH! I practically had store employees following me through the store at this point to pick up our messes. Then she started sticking the poles through the holes in the cart so they kept falling out the bottom or whacking people's ankles as they walked by. I apologized a lot! Keep in mind this was a whole 30 feet from the pole box to the check-out counter. It seemed like miles!
Finally we got there to find that the barcode on the chicken wire wouldn't scan well and had like 5 sets of numbers that could to be typed into the computer to ring it up. Danna found some cute little girl sunglasses at the counter and started trying them on. I grabbed 2 pairs and figured I'd buy them; whatever it took to entertain them for 5 minutes so we could leave! I can't tell you how many times those little sunglasses were dropped, and thrown when I tried to take them away so they'd stop dropping the poor things, before I FINALLY got my receipt so we could leave.
It still took a while to get to the car because my poles "happened" to slide out the bottom of my cart again and we were FINALLY out the door when Danna started bawling because we'd left her shoe somewhere inside the store. On the verge of hysteria and tears a nice man came up to us with the lost sandal before we could wreak any more havoc on the store and all those poor employees of Cal-Ranch. Needless to say, that was our last errand of the day, the rest would have to wait.
So, to avoid becoming one of those moms who leaves their kids locked in their car seats in a baking car, I just might not ever leave my house again.
I just finished setting up my chicken wire in the garden (which works very well I might add) to find that I didn't buy enough to fill both rows of peas.
Too Bad!
