Our plan was to have our first Christmas at our house just as a little family and then to drive out after opening presents and meeting up with Mike's parents in Park City, Utah. But if anyone heard, there was a huge storm warning predicted for Christmas morning. So Christmas Eve, despite not being ready to leave, we had a rushed family Christmas before jumping in the car for a drive down to Utah.
The drive was great and we got there in time to be snowed into the condo we were staying at. Christmas day was a blast and the girls had a fun time opening their presents and playing with wrapping paper.
The best part was after we got home Monday evening from our holiday. I went downstairs to check on a gift I had been making for Danna when I noticed our basement was flooded!!! A sprinkler line outside had broken and the water leaked into our downstairs window well and came right into the basement.
Bummer!
We are definitely new home owners cause we were at a loss for what to do or who to call. Eventually we had some cleaning people come and they were at our house for the next 3 or 4 hours hosing out the water in our basement and getting rid of our soaking wet boxes. (Thank goodness for insurance!)
Luckily, we were pretty blessed in that our damage losses were minimal. Since our basement is unfinished we didn't have carpet or drywall problems and most of our valuable paper stuffs were up on tables or on a bookshelf which kept them dry. A silent moment to my brother-in-law who is storing his stuff in our basement while he interns in Florida. His was the worst of the damage, though I think only a box of textbooks was ruined.
Anyway, I'm posting a few pictures of our basement after it is mostly dry just so we can all remember the excitement that took place :)
In this picture I'm holding my hand up to how high the well was full of water when we arrived home; it was just shooting in through this window.
Anyway, hope everyone's holidays were fabulous and maybe a little less 'exciting' than ours.
That's crazy that your basement flooded! I"m sorry. . . and glad that not much was damaged. What a bummer though!
