we got through it.
I had grand plans originally, though, mind you.
Grand plans like:
- making adorable Easter baskets out of fluffy stuffed animals (that I saw instructions for on a blog years ago)
- making matching Easter dresses for the girls with a matching bowtie for the Cale-meister
- or maybe just buying matching dresses
- just hairbows then?
- or even making it to the store on my own for some jelly beans and chocolate bunnies
None of the above actually happened though. Life has seriously been all I can handle--and barely then. I know--I've become THAT mom.
Easter Eve (actually Friday night since I do all Easter Bunny stuff on the Saturday before Easter)
I may have been mistaking this holiday for Halloween because I was totally witchy.
I was seriously fed up and annoyed and feeling very mental.
So I avoided doing anything--let my kids watch movies late, avoided housework of any kind, didn't make dinner and definitely did not prepare for Easter Bunny morning. I went to bed late too which is just dumb when you're getting the amount of sleep I'm getting.
I got up 4 or 5 times with the fussy baby during the night.
After the last time, probably sometime around 4 in the morning I couldn't get back to sleep and decided to raid the pantry and the basement and be a less-than mediocre Easter Bunny instead of forgetting it completely.
Good thing I'm a hoarder.
I had 2 bags of m&m's, a thing of lifesavers, and a half a bag of marshmallows in the shape of bunnies. I threw in some fruit snacks and dollar store wands that I found in the stash of stuff I'd lost before Christmas and then found again. The baskets were all random and mismatching. I had eggs from Easter last year, filled a few up and called it good.
Funny how little it takes to completely astound and excite children.
They ate candy before breakfast.
Then we decided last minute to try to make it to the city egg hunt.
It was over in about 1 minute flat.
And it was insane--seriously what are we trying to teach our children?!?
Carina was competitive--very much Mike's daughter.
Danna was cautious but determined.
Brynn absolutely just loved being part of the experience. She was giddy.
Brynn only did get 2 eggs--not that that distinguished the enjoyment for her at all. She even gave them away to Danna and was just as happy to be there. (Though I should conclude with the fact that she ate pretty much all the candy from everyone's baskets anyway--the stinker)
And I did end up having a good time watching them all despite being tired and still a bit grumpy. And by Sunday (actual Easter) I was able to feel the reason for the season.
He lives!
and I'm so utterly happy to know that.
For some reason this post kind of made me cry. What a great reminder that making our kids happy isn't about having the the most amazing gifts or homemade crafts. It's just about loving them. You're a great mom. Don't ever doubt it!
